Goat's Milk Soap

My mom always taught me to take good care of the skin on my face. She's now into her 70's and her friends always marvel at how she looks much younger than her age, and she doesn't use expensive branded products.

I usually cleanse, tone and moisturise religiously on a daily basis, which means that I have quite a number of bottles on the shelf in my bathroom. I wish there was one product that could substitute them all...

One day while browsing in a shop selling organic foodstuff and toiletries, someone gave me a small piece of lavender face soap sample to try. I found that the soap cleaned my face really well, removing all my make up instantly and afterwards my skin didn't feel tight like it usually does when I use my regular facial wash.

However, that soap was made in China and my friend MK reminded me to be wary of products from that country..."don't know what they put in it", she said. I suppose if melamine could be added to baby formula then some extra stuff could be added to that piece of soap...? I wasn't going to take any chances with my face.

One day my brother mentioned that he was starting a business with a friend selling all natural goat's milk soap, sourced from Kuching, Sarawak. Hmm...locally made soap sounded much more appealing to me...after all, we have lots of goats in our country so why not make use of all that milk :)

He gave me a bar of soap to try...a honey and oatmeal soap for my dry skin.


I tried it...

I like it!


It removes my make up instantly...even my water-proof mascara (I believe that women should always wear water-proof mascara...ever seen mascara running down a woman's face when she gets emotional? eww!) My skin felt great after that and I was tempted to skip the moisturiser too...but the wrinkles on my face needed some erasing so I can't skip the wrinkle cream :(

Did some research on the internet about goat's milk soap and found that it has a lot of benefits, but the main concern I have is that commercial cleansers, toners and moisturisers contain lots of chemicals...just take a look at the long list of ingredients at the back of each tube or bottle...and multiply that by the number of products that is used daily...kinda scary to see how many different types of chemicals I apply to my face on a daily basis! (Being the vain-pot that I am, I have 2 different kinds of make-up removers, a foaming facial wash, toner and 2 kinds of moisturisers!)



By the way, the goat's milk soap is priced at RM13 (think of how cheap it is compared to all the cleansers and toners that we buy) and it comes in various formulation for different skin types. There's even one specially formulated for men!

No Surfing While Showering

My daughter, Miss PreTeen discovered something rather unusual a few days ago...

PreTeen: "Mom, I just realised that the internet connection gets disrupted every time dad takes a shower."

Me: "Ya, right..."

PreTeen: "No, really! The moment he finishes his shower the internet will be connected again."

I didn't really believe her...after all, how could the internet (which uses the phone line) and the water-heater (which is connected to electricity) be interrelated???

Today, PreTeen was using the internet when I stepped into the shower.

PreTeen: "Mom, no internet!!! See, I told you so!"

Hmmm....I still wasn't convinced. Maybe it was just a coincidence.

This evening, I was making some changes to the fonts in my blog when hubby decided to take a shower...

and guess what happened...


no internet connection...


until he switched off the water heater!


Strange...but true!

(I seem to hear the theme from 'Twilight Zone' ringing in my head...those born before the 1980's might remember the song!)

Mom The Cobbler

There are many things that a mom needs to do...cook and clean, fetch kids to and from school, make Milo, kill cockroaches, to name a few. Today I have added another job to the list...fixing shoes, ballet slippers to be more precise.


My daughter, Miss PreTeen, took her Grade 5 ballet exam last Tuesday and is now starting the Inter-Foundation grade where she has to use pointe shoes. Her normal ballet slippers cost RM60, so I thought that the new shoes wouldn't cost very much more...I couldn't be more wrong...it costs THREE times more...!

It also comes in bits and pieces, like a jigsaw that I need to assemble.

Step 1: Take the slippers to the cobbler and get him to stick the little leather pieces onto the tips of the slippers with very strong glue. Hubby volunteered to glue it on since he had some elephant glue, but PreTeen didn't quite trust his skills...nothing could be more embarassing in ballet class than having her slippers fall apart while dancing...

Got it done at the professional cobbler for RM3.

Step 2: Cut the ribbon into 4 equal pieces and seal the edges with fire.

PreTeen kept a watchful eye making sure I didn't burn the whole piece of ribbon!

Step 3: Sew the ribbons onto the slippers.

My sewing skills aren't great, as you can see from the untidy stitches, but I suppose no one will notice since it's on the inside of the slippers ;)

TADAA...all done!



Hopefully nothing comes apart during her next ballet lesson when she's wearing them! (fingers crossed)

Can't Resist A Good Bargain

A young friend posted a card last week and it was supposed to reach me in time for my birthday last Sunday, but guess what...I only received it yesterday.

This was popped into the postbox on 8th April, reached the post office on 13th April (!), arrived in my letterbox on 16th April (!!)

BUT it was very thoughtful of her to send a snail mail card instead of just sending an e-greeting, which seems to be the norm these days :)

There's a sale at Macy's and I have a member card, so I went over to their store in Serdang to have a look and to update my member details as they are going cardless soon. The ottoman which is priced at RM59 is on offer for RM19.90 to members, so look what I brought home...

...something which does NOT match any of my furniture...but hey, it was a good buy! Now I'm wondering what to do with it...ermm, anyone need an ottoman?

Sunday Shopping Fun

Miss PreTeen had her ballet class in PJ on Sunday, to practise at the dance studio where her ballet exam would be conducted. After dropping her off, hubby and I went over to The Curve for a spot of shopping. There is a morning market there on Sundays, with stalls selling all kinds of things from pajamas to paintings on canvas, but mostly ladies' clothes. I wanted to get a stainless steel bracelet to replace the one which I lost a few months back (still heartbroken over it). I had bought it from a stall at this market.

Managed to get a new bracelet, plus a treble clef pendant (which I have been trying to get for the longest time) and a pair of rings for hubby and myself (did I mention that we love to buy rings?)...I just adore stainless steel jewellery...very happy with my purchases since we only had an hour to shop before heading back to the dance school to fetch PreTeen.

April Fool Prank

It's been ages since I last played a prank on anyone on April Fool's Day. I remember how when I was in school, my friends and I were quite daring and every year we gleefully looked forward to the 1st of April so that we could play pranks on our teachers in school. Wetting all the pieces of chalk was a common prank but one time it backfired when one of our teachers came into class and asked a student to write something on the blackboard instead. Another time our entire class decided to swap classrooms with the class next door and when the teacher came in, she looked puzzled thinking she had stepped into the wrong classroom!

Childish pranks took a back seat after I finished schooling and started work. Then I met my hubby-to-be.

He always had this mischievious glint in his eye and on April Fool's Day a few months before we were to get married, we played a prank on his best man.

We told him that we had quarrelled and had decided to break up. So I called him up and told him to pass a message to hubby-to-be, telling him that it's over and that I didn't want to speak to him anymore. I threw in all my acting skills and tried to sound very upset, and it worked because hubby's best man tried his best to pacify me and get me to 'patch things up'. At least it was done over the phone or else I don't think I could have kept a straight face throughout the conversation! But he was such a sweet guy and really concerned for the both of us, so he was really relieved when I told him that it was just an April Fool joke...awwww.

Since then I have been behaving myself, but today I just couldn't resist the urge to do something naughty. So I looked up the internet and found some ideas for an April Fool prank. I put masking tape over the sensor at the bottom of CoolTeen's computer mouse (the cursor will not move when he tries to use his mouse). Then I had to go out after lunch before he started using his computer.

When I came home, I asked him if there was any problem with his mouse. He wasn't too pleased that he got fooled but he was gracious about it and just smiled. Then he told me that he thought his mouse wasn't working so he banged it on the table a few times...and I gasped!

I asked him, "You didn't damage your mouse, did you?"

"Nope."

And I breathe a sigh of relieve...that prank could have cost me the price of a new mouse!

(at least CoolTeen discovered the masking tape before he wrecked his mouse)
