<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I became a mother.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I held a little baby in my arms,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My life was changed forever.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">How could a baby so tiny,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Fill us with such joy and wonder</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Every milestone big or small,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Is recorded with the camera.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Tears and tantrums,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Laughter and tickles,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Chicken drumsticks and chocolate,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Barney and 'The Wiggles'.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Badminton and cycling,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Piano lessons and swimming,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Piles of daily homework,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">You did at the speed of lightning.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Then you became a teenager,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And you saw the world differently.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">You were growing up</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And we missed that dimply smile dearly.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But the years flew by quickly</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And the gloomy clouds lifted away.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The boy has grown up,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But still loving Milo every day.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Now my son, you are twenty one</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">With a future bright and clear.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Spread your wings and fly,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But remember this, my dear....</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Firstly, </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">God always has the best plan for your life.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Secondly, </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Your dad and I will be moving in with you </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As soon as you can afford to buy a house of your own!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Hubby packs lunch to work, usually something simple like sandwiches or pies and the occasional fried rice. At one time I had been making cute bento lunches for hubby to bring to work but lately I had run out of ideas...until I found</span><span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"> a very interesting blog on the internet,</span><span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"> </span><a href="http://littlemissbento.com/" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Little Miss Bento</a><span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"> where food is made with such creativity that it gave me ideas once again on how to make our meals more enjoyable.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">My daughter, SweetTeen also has her share of cute lunches after she comes home from school. </span><span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">These are some of the simple meals I came up with in the last 2 weeks:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7a2g-ibBgFZDfnyIfrfyaTU6nfHw_UX0KzKmn0RWw0zvJ01CKYBgmObXMAlwng70fTv4zpZvgKgLdfOZKbXnOvRvjR6hEMg0xYQ2XdWkS0AZC1VIa-f7k0MVCvBDCWCkq9CUenwMg99s/s1600/Dear+Me.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7a2g-ibBgFZDfnyIfrfyaTU6nfHw_UX0KzKmn0RWw0zvJ01CKYBgmObXMAlwng70fTv4zpZvgKgLdfOZKbXnOvRvjR6hEMg0xYQ2XdWkS0AZC1VIa-f7k0MVCvBDCWCkq9CUenwMg99s/s1600/Dear+Me.jpg" height="80" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Recently someone posted a video on Facebook entitled "Dear 16-year-old Me" about melanoma (skin cancer) survivors sharing their stories. I've also read something similar in someone's blog about that person sharing her experiences through a letter. That got me thinking...what would I tell the teenager that I once was, now that I am 46 and have experienced more of life? </span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Dear 16-year-old Me,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Hi! I am you, 30 years down the road. I'm writing you this letter because I think that there are some things you might be curious to know about how life will turn out for you. It's hard for you to imagine yourself at my age, but just to let you know, I haven't changed much except that my face is a little rounder and my boobs sag a little lower, haha. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">I still remember you envisioning the future, about having a career and a wonderful marriage with 2 kids. Don't worry too much about not having a boyfriend even though you see your friends pairing up and being all lovey-dovey. How do you know when the right guy comes along? When you go out with a guy and he doesn't try to impress you with how good he is or what possessions he has. When you can be yourself with him and he loves you for being you. When he cares for others. When he loves God and wants to please Him. And yes, this guy exists and you married him. He and his family love you to bits.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">And yes, you will have 2 kids - a boy and a girl - just like you imagined you would. They have been a challenge to raise but I cannot imagine my life without them. The love and joy that they bring is just priceless. And nothing beats being a mom to teenage kids! By the way, your daughter looks like you and she dances ballet, like how you had wanted to but somehow didn't.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Oh yes, one thing I have a hard time getting rid of are the freckles on my cheeks. I wish you would not spend so much time in the sun although I understand that during that era the trend was having tanned skin. Sunblock is now my best friend. However, I must thank you for taking care of your skin with the proper skin care through the years and now people tell me that I look younger than my age. I must confess though, that the love for make up and cosmetics have carried on till this present day. Another thing, you don't need to wish for bigger eyes, your small eyes look fine with proper make up. The lack of height...just got to live with it.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">My health is not too bad for a 46-year-old. I still love cakes and pastries, but I try not to give in to temptation - sometimes I succeed, other times I don't. The trend now is healthy eating.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Life will not be a bed of roses but I know you have that 'stubbornness' in you that you will never quit no matter what life throws at you. You have dreams of pursuing your studies overseas and there will come a time after you've completed your matriculation in college that you will see your friends one by one going overseas for their studies...but you will be left behind. Dad will tell you that his business is not doing well and there won't be enough money for you to study overseas. But don't despair, opportunities will open up in other areas and you will find tremendous joy and satisfaction in another career path. Also, you would not have met your Prince Charming if you had gone overseas, so I am thankful now for the broken dreams back then.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">An illness in the family will really test you and force you to grow up real quick. But don't worry, your faith in God will bring you through the difficult times when you have to bear heavy burdens on your young shoulders.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">A drastic change to a smaller town later on will seem like an awful hindrance to all your plans, but this will be the time when you discover yourself minus all the trappings of material possessions and big-city life.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">So, don't take things too seriously, enjoy the fun moments. Treasure your friends. Some of those girls in school and new friends you find at your future workplace will become lifelong pals. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Embrace difficult circumstances as opportunities to grow as a person. Trust God and He will show you what He has purposed for you, and bring you from strength to strength. All that I am and have is truly by the grace of God, and for that I am grateful.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Love,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">Your 46-year-old Self</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here we are at the end of another year. 2014 has been a year of ups and downs for me. I'm thankful for the good things and grateful to God for strength when I encountered life's storms. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Looking forward to better things in the coming year. Am going to church with hubby and kids to spend the last few hours of the year. This year our pastor has scheduled an all night prayer meeting. What better way to end the year and welcome the new year than to be in the presence of God, committing all that's important to us into His loving hands.</span><br />

Since I can't do that very often, I've found some things to bring some cheer when the day is long and tiring...</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">McDonald's was selling these cute little plush toys. The kids today may not appreciate them but the Mr Men and Little Miss books were one of my favourites in my childhood. So I just had to get them. Too bad I didn't manage to collect the whole set. They just bring a smile whenever I look at them.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small; text-align: center;">I had a collection of almost all the books in the series. When I went back to my mum's house to look for them so that I could pass them on to my kids, my mum told me she had given them all away! :(</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I was at the <i>pasar malam</i> one evening and look what I found...an assemble-it-yourself little piano! The retail price at the malls is RM35.90 but I got it for RM14, not the original version but not any less adorable. It's now on display on top of my upright piano. Maybe I'll be able to buy a grand piano some day. Love it to bits!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And of course, some colourful chewy candy that I picked up from the Aeon supermarket. A bit of sugar rush when I'm a little low on energy. We all need a little pick-me-up now and then :) </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Just when I thought life was going to be back to the usual ho-hum routine after all the fun activitities during the school holiday break, I got involved in another 2 car accidents....yes, two.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The first was on a Tuesday and hubby was out of town, so my son took the opportunity to borrow my car since I could use hubby's car instead. I was driving alone and had stopped at the traffic lights when it turned red and was the first car in line. When the lights turned green and it was my turn to go, the motorcyclist ahead of me couldn't get his bike started and so I had to wait for him to get going before I could move along. Suddenly I heard a thud and felt the impact of a car knocking into the rear of hubby's car. Having experienced an <a href="https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=5669813303988244627#editor/target=post;postID=4510872363518105168;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClosedMenu=allposts;postNum=3;src=postname">accident</a> at the traffic lights just 2 months back, I was rather annoyed at the prospect of having to deal with another careless motorist. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I put on a scowl and got down from the car to inspect the damage. The driver in the car behind me was a lady and she looked quite apologetic. To my surprise and relief, knowing how hubby really treasures his car, there was no dent at all on his car...not even a scratch! So all was well and with a glad heart I continued my journey.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The next day, things got more interesting in a complicated way. My story is a long one so do bear with me.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I was on my way to the Wednesday prayer meeting in church with my kids in my car, and my son was driving as I felt a little tired after a long day of activities. As we entered the basement carpark, a car suddenly appeared from a lane on the left and rammed right into the passenger side door where I was seated. The driver was a lady and she didn't even step on her brakes when she saw my car coming, neither did she step on the brakes even when her car had hit mine!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I got down and inspected the damage. Then I stomped over to the other car.</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmeZzuPY2r4-aG-QXlyjfV5HFEGXCd0cLflW_IW5-AyMwye4w-qu7B1eRSN6_MqT1onwC089H-KI-rAsg8H9tE17Z0j4BF8mVcb9Vla6Ctav4KJ0ElevUR6zbvn_qzdjw9xilw-yp3szI/s1600/MyVi+2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmeZzuPY2r4-aG-QXlyjfV5HFEGXCd0cLflW_IW5-AyMwye4w-qu7B1eRSN6_MqT1onwC089H-KI-rAsg8H9tE17Z0j4BF8mVcb9Vla6Ctav4KJ0ElevUR6zbvn_qzdjw9xilw-yp3szI/s1600/MyVi+2.JPG" height="320" width="239" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">The damage to the panel above<br />the front tyre and car door</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The other lady didn't offer a word of apology but instead took a look at the dent on the front bumper of her Honda CRV and instead asked me to fix back a plastic piece that had fallen off. This time I was furious.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I demanded for her IC and she handed it over together with her driving licence. I took photos of them. Then I asked for compensation and she said that I should just claim compensation from my own insurance. I told her that I would certainly claim compensation, but from HER insurance company, and got her phone number. She said she had to rush off to work and so we left it at that as I was also late for church meeting.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My friends in church advised me to lodge a police report, so when I reached home I gave the lady a call just to let her know that she would also need to lodge a police report. Then she tells me that she has changed her mind and that we should settle the matter amicably. She said she would call me the next morning to discuss the matter.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Early the next day, I took my car to the workshop to get an estimate on the cost of repairs. The figure came up to over a thousand Ringgit. The lady called again at 10am and this time she apologized but said that she could only compensate me RM300. Of course I refused since the accident was clearly not my son's fault as we had the right of way in the carpark. Then she said she would check with her cousin sister because the car belonged to her. Later, a man called me, claiming to be a friend of the lady driver, and said that he had advised her that she should bear the cost of repairs and that he would recommend a mechanic to repair my car. We were to meet at a mamak shop near the church at 2pm. I also asked hubby to call this man to discuss the matter.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This is where the story takes a turn. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I arrive at the mamak shop at 2pm with my son. Instead of taking me straight to the workshop as he had earlier promised, he asked me to park my car and sit down to discuss matters. The mechanic was there together with the lady driver, and I smelt something fishy. They tell me that they would not replace my car door with a new one, although hubby had told me that this man had already agreed to. This man is one slick character trying to impress me with lots of stories. Anyway, after some negotiation I followed him to a car workshop somewhere along Jalan Loke Yew. When I arrived, immediately I realised why he had wanted to sit down and discuss first, and made sure I agreed to have my car repaired at his recommended workshop. It was a simple shed kind of workshop, not even a proper shoplot that I was accustomed to. Then the mechanic does not issue me any invoice and I was really hesitant to hand over my car. All I had was his business card. My son even wonders if this workshop is legal.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To cut a long story short, I decided to trust the mechanic. I definitely did not trust that smooth-talking man. The mechanic seemed like an honest guy and he asked me to take photos of his workshop to show my husband. Later I found on the internet that this workshop has its own Facebook page with photos and 'likes', so it seemed like a legitimate business after all. In 4 days' time I collected my car. The repairs were thoroughly inspected by hubby and seemed good except for some very minor rough spots which were not really noticeable unless a person inspects it very closely. Cost of repairs borne by the other party: RM900</span><br />

For 2 of them, it's their first time travelling to Peninsula Malaysia so we brought them to as many places as we could fit into each day. It was also school holidays and semester break for my kids.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The guys arrived on Sunday. On Monday we took them to Colmar Tropicale Resort and then up to Genting Highlands. It was their first experience riding the cable car. And for the first time in many years there was no queue for the cable car ride even though it was school holidays last week, mainly due to the extensive ongoing renovations done to the outdoor theme park. Only the video arcade machines and kiddy rides are operating at the moment, much to our disappointment, as my kids had wanted to ride the indoor roller-coaster and the bumper cars.</span><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif; font-size: small;">At one point on our way down, the winds<br />got so strong that the cable cars were<br />halted for around 10 minutes, which made the<br />ride even more exciting in a scary way.</span></td></tr>

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">On Tuesday we had a farewell lunch with our church youth group at <a href="https://plus.google.com/100531490063710370610/about?gl=my&hl=en">Restaurant Thai Fish Farm</a> along Jalan Hulu Langat for one of the youths who was going overseas to further her studies. Then it was off to eCurve to take part in 'The Pirate Ship', a problem-solving game at the <a href="http://www.escaperoom.com.my/">Escape Room</a>. We were locked in a room and given clues on how to escape, but need to do it within 45 minutes. This time we managed to clock the fastest time of 29mins 50secs and was named champion for the day :)</span><br />

<span style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">On Wednesday, we made a trip to KLCC to photograph the twin towers. They had been very excited about seeing the twin towers and at first we were a little worried as there had been bad haze in the city just the day before. But when we reached KLCC, it was clear skies and the guys took lots and lots of photos.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">On Thursday, we made our way to Malacca for our church camp at Seri Costa Hotel. It was really good to take time away from our daily routines to just immerse ourselves in spiritual matters such as prayer and listening to God's Word taught from the Bible. Of course it was also a time of deepening friendships as we spent 3 days having meals together and taking wefies (selfies of a group of people) and generally just having lots of fun and laughter.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">It was really fun experiencing what it would feel like to have 5 kids! Everywhere we went, we had to have a head count to make sure everyone was in the car before we headed off to the next destination. Can't leave anyone behind, right? It was also rather funny the way people assumed that we were a family and then whisper behind our backs or give us strange stares when we begin speaking to each other in the Malay language, as some of us were fair and a few had darker skin.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">During the Hari Raya holidays end of last month, hubby and I plus another lady from our church conducted a short seminar in one of our branch churches in Miri, Sarawak. Brought my kids, Miss SweetTeen and Mr. CoolGuy along, since they've never been to East Malaysia. They were a bit apprehensive at first, not knowing what to expect, but I reassured them that we were going to a city and not to the inlands.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We took the AirAsia flight from KLIA2, the newer part of our Kuala Lumpur International Airport. No wonder we were told to check in 3 hours earlier, as the queues were long because of the holiday season and there's quite a lot of walking to do from the check-in point right up to the boarding gate.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVU_CfTkRwa26IlaAWgmotzTc0K3aX2K26nbaDeBul93RixQ8Bpolh3u7eJhwLUQbgCdFnNdwGSPodw3ebpPqDb5LXOLMHJH650eo41_tnavh1mCanhAqL34WOXxug71tfOX7kbyGUJp0/s1600/miri1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVU_CfTkRwa26IlaAWgmotzTc0K3aX2K26nbaDeBul93RixQ8Bpolh3u7eJhwLUQbgCdFnNdwGSPodw3ebpPqDb5LXOLMHJH650eo41_tnavh1mCanhAqL34WOXxug71tfOX7kbyGUJp0/s1600/miri1.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">When we landed, the Pastor's children were waiting at the airport to fetch us to the apartment where we would be staying. We spent Sunday morning in church and then spent a few hours at their largest mall, Bintang Megamall, at the request of my city kids. We didn't plan to explore nature on this trip because of time constrains...perhaps we'll do that the next time we come.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The next day, we taught at the day-long seminar in a church which comprises of mainly Iban folks. It was quite a challenge for us to teach in Bahasa Malaysia as it's not a language that we use daily. We really appreciated the fact that each of the ladies in the church had painstakingly prepared a traditional dish for us for lunch. </span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It has been a painful month for many people in our nation as well as around the world with the shooting down of our Malaysian Airlines MH17 as well as the Taiwanese and Algerian plane crashes all happening within a week.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I also know of a passing of a wonderful young man, someone whom I didn't know personally, but he had been to our church to conduct free guitar lessons for some of our youths. He had been Leukaemia-free for a few months before experiencing a relapse. He left behind a young wife and a 3 year old daughter.</span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Some things are beyond our control and we can only pray for peace and comfort for those who are grieving over the loss of their loved ones.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">What I've learnt is that life on earth is not always a pleasant journey. Just as rain falls on the good and the bad without discrimination, we are glad when things go well but bad things sometimes happen to good people as well and vice versa. The way we respond to these situations is what makes the difference. We can either retaliate in anger or respond with grace.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A few days ago, a 14 year old motorcyclist riding without a license was speeding on his father's motorbike and crashed into my car behind the passenger-side door as I waiting at the traffic lights. Thankfully he only had minor cuts and bruises. His bike was badly damaged and a part of his bike had cut right through my car tyre causing a puncture. A portion of my back bumper was also dented. My car is only 10 months old.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Of course I was furious at first. But causing a scene (with or without a steering lock...some of you would understand what I mean. *wink*) would not bring about much good result, other than getting my face posted all over Facebook! Hubby had told me earlier over the phone that he was coming home early that day, and guess who was just passing by when I was standing by the side of the road talking to the injured motorcyclist! I was glad to have hubby around as I wasn't sure what to do. The motorcyclist looked quite frightened when I asked for his father's phone number.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The next thing I knew, the 14 year old kid's older brother also passed by on the same road on his way home from work and stopped to see what was going on. Firstly he gave his kid brother a good scolding and then he came over to offer compensation. They aren't very well-to-do people and at one point we just wanted to drop the whole matter and let them off the hook since the damage to my car wasn't too great. But the other guy gave his phone number and said he would compensate us.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We got the repairs done the next day amounting to around RM250 and hubby contacted the kid's brother to ask for half the amount. I'm glad the matter got settled in a calm manner. Sometimes being level-headed and showing a bit of kindness to someone else is just the antidote to selfishness and revenge in this imperfect world that we live in.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My wedding was 22 years ago but I still remember every detail as if it had just happened yesterday. This year hubby and I had a simple celebration. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hubby took the day off a few days ago when we both had less on our daily schedule. Had a quick breakfast of hotcakes at McD's and then headed to Mid Valley mall to catch the latest Tom Cruise movie, "Edge Of Tomorrow". We haven't gone to the cinema on our own for a very long time as we usually have our kids with us. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Then it was off to lunch at Tony Roma's. Hubby had his beef ribs while I ordered chicken. I had planned to have dessert but we were too full after the meal.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Headed for home after a bit of shopping and then took the kids out for dinner. Hubby wanted to buy a matching pair of watches for the both of us and after going from shop to shop we finally settled on a simple design.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><i>"Every love story is beautiful but ours is my favourite."</i></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Looking forward to many more anniversaries to come :)</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">For as long as I can remember, I have banished the words "I can't" from my vocabulary. My motto in life has always been "I can and I will". Growing up with 2 brothers has made me resolve never to be pushed aside and be told that I couldn't do what boys could do, just because I was a girl.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">However, as age catches up with me, I find that there are some things that I find harder to do. Objects I could lift without any problems a few years back now feels rather heavy and my back would complain.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A few weeks back I caught what I thought was just a common stomach virus, but it turned out much worse than that. It started with bouts of diarrhea and throwing up, but when I couldn't get out of bed because the room would spin and there was constant ringing in my ears causing my hearing to diminish that I began to worry a little. Thankfully, the doctor at a clinic nearby had the good sense to refer me to the Ear, Nose and Throat specialist right away. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">At the ENT doctor's clinic, I was told to get a hearing test done. My usually optimistic ENT doctor who would usually say, "Don't worry, lah. I'll prescribe some medicine and you'll be fine in no time." took one look at the results of my hearing test and looked a bit worried after I described all my symptoms. A virus had attacked the nerves in my ears and affected my sense of balance as well as my ability to hear certain frequencies of sound. On top of that, I had totally lost my sense of smell. So he gave me a high dose of steroids to try and help me regain my hearing and sense of smell.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To cut a long story short, after 2 weeks of constant medication I have regained about 95% of my hearing although I have a constant high pitch buzzing in my ears that I have since learnt to ignore. I can drive around again as things don't seem to spin in circles around my head anymore. In short, life has gone back to as normal as it can be after some damaged nerves in my ears. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0KZbok_3Ydr2sxglp-HYi7wRK3KlYkZNvuPHF4bcnRxer3-gGrhQ3aTk99-dor08J6aWILdMX3UXlSZZrvt5ExXgs9AeTTps-oeA0F3xrILKhprN6A92s6Ob7sMY6wlTQoXqur4F0T9U/s1600/5senses.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0KZbok_3Ydr2sxglp-HYi7wRK3KlYkZNvuPHF4bcnRxer3-gGrhQ3aTk99-dor08J6aWILdMX3UXlSZZrvt5ExXgs9AeTTps-oeA0F3xrILKhprN6A92s6Ob7sMY6wlTQoXqur4F0T9U/s1600/5senses.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">However, the nerves in my nose are still not functioning. Of course I can't do a lot of things in life but this is a major "I CAN'T" for me..."I can't smell" :(</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To some people it doesn't seem like a bad thing to have 4 senses out of 5. I am grateful that I can still taste, though. But I derive a lot of pleasure out of baking, and for someone who can tell how many more minutes before my cupcakes are done in the oven just based on smell alone, it is quite distressing not to be able to smell. Looking at the bright side, at least bad odours don't bother me anymore.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My doctor tells me that he can't do much about that. It might come back or it might not. But I'm really glad I still have my hearing and being a person very much involved in music, I would choose my hearing over my sense of smell. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Being thankful for little things helps. Life goes on.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We didn't plan any trip this school holidays so hubby and I decided to take our kids to The Escape Room at Berjaya Times Square mall for a fun afternoon together.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The Escape Room is a challenge game with various themes. We looked at their <a href="http://www.escaperoom.com.my/">website</a> and initially wanted to go to eCurve but the time slots that we wanted were all fully booked, so we chose Berjaya Times Square instead. Booking can be done online, several days ahead without any payment. The staff will give us a phone call on the day we have chosen just to confirm our attendance and we only pay at the venue. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Entrance fee is RM32 per person but there is a small discount for students with the Student ID card. Secondary students can bring their library card.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Each room has a fixed difficulty level, from 3 (easy) to 5 (difficult), and not being very adventurous we chose the one with a difficulty level of 4 - The Vampire Chronicles. The maximum number of people allowed in each room is 8, but no one else wanted our time slot so we had the whole room to ourselves.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We had to keep our bags and mobile phones in a locker so I couldn't take any photos to show on my blog, but there's their official video here to give you an idea of what's it's all about.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="225" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/Jz34l1zeAbM?rel=0" width="400"></iframe>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The challenge is to get clues within the room and solve the puzzle before 45 minutes is up. </span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV1k2i-pjTxDyoO180Urn-zz6VEmbdcenW2kQYxyV0CNtEIknjr1nvqEcECqLxUnvVRE3QRp4mhooopujpEn8fh16m0aVRAEWFcqObyHppm8KRU2iNBL3XV07SC_KyBoZ6lbZq7fpf02o/s1600/handcuffs.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgV1k2i-pjTxDyoO180Urn-zz6VEmbdcenW2kQYxyV0CNtEIknjr1nvqEcECqLxUnvVRE3QRp4mhooopujpEn8fh16m0aVRAEWFcqObyHppm8KRU2iNBL3XV07SC_KyBoZ6lbZq7fpf02o/s1600/handcuffs.png" height="236" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">We started off the game by being handcuffed together -<br />all four of us. The our guide gave us instructions before<br />sending us into our allocated room.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We could find the key to unlock our handcuffs and managed to solve the first puzzle. Unfortunately we took too long trying to figure out some mathematical clues and didn't manage to escape in time. Our guide was good, when our time was up he came in and explained all the answers to us. It turned out to be simpler than we thought and goes to show that sometimes we think of complicated ways to solve a puzzle when the the solution is actually quite simple.</span><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNPTIcP8aDYqTo3CzBTntJN1EDPb7SQtWBMn2nOTYfhbcSpTqPuJuyeD6F9fymQGtcJ8LwSfEINU_lb_Ih0m50jZAV6gXLa1CXpGz3C1aGVdv8qR_k7vg7nkYE7coPX6gSbPyyjIL17Lk/s1600/escape+time.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNPTIcP8aDYqTo3CzBTntJN1EDPb7SQtWBMn2nOTYfhbcSpTqPuJuyeD6F9fymQGtcJ8LwSfEINU_lb_Ih0m50jZAV6gXLa1CXpGz3C1aGVdv8qR_k7vg7nkYE7coPX6gSbPyyjIL17Lk/s1600/escape+time.jpg" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: small;">We went "Uh-oh" when our timer showed this.</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So in the end we had to take a photo with a big LOSER sign, haha. Those we escape before 45 minutes would get to hold the WINNER signboard instead.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But his mum, being the forgetful person that she is, is a blogger and she wants to keep a record of all the experiences in her life as a mum so that there would be stories to tell her children when they become parents, as well as to her grandchildren in days to come.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hence all the nicknames and lack of photos of ourselves so as to have some degree of privacy. In this age of advancing technology, you'll never know what unscrupulous people can do with your mugshots, right?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">OK...back to the nickname bit.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'll refer to my son as<span style="color: #38761d;"> </span><span style="color: blue;">Mr. CoolGuy</span> from this day on, a slight difference from his old nickname, Mr.CoolTeen.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2TLKl3EvWK5H6Vhn2CpDjeqGZezkqvobwA49H9BElS7KnBAcslun-7VhIeaRsdYg5law-AZQlikelndynZsV4yodos7dN7b3iJqC3k_kZA4A03lhz-ETbxVkWPLMtHu1Jak3GSLjBe_0/s1600/JPJ+P.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2TLKl3EvWK5H6Vhn2CpDjeqGZezkqvobwA49H9BElS7KnBAcslun-7VhIeaRsdYg5law-AZQlikelndynZsV4yodos7dN7b3iJqC3k_kZA4A03lhz-ETbxVkWPLMtHu1Jak3GSLjBe_0/s1600/JPJ+P.jpg" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Mr. CoolGuy has exchanged his Malaysian Probational Driving Licence (PDL) for his Competent Driving Licence (CDL) and the P stickers on our cars can now be removed, much to his pleasure. He complains that drivers of larger vehicles usually like to bully drivers in smaller cars with the P sticker by cutting into their lanes. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Took him to the nearest branch of the Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan, bringing a photo, MyKad and P driving licence. I didnt know that the photo needed a white background now instead of the usual blue, but thankfully the photo could be scanned from the new MyKad. So the chip in the MyKad works after all. The strange rule is that we can only renew the licence within a week of the expiry date. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Queue was really long. After a 1.5 hour wait, I paid RM150 for 5 years plus RM15 processing fee but because CoolGuy's birthday falls in March, he gets another 11 months FOC since his P licence expired end of April. Not bad, 6 years for the price of 5!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

For Mother's Day this year, the youths and young adults were assigned to bring food instead.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">So early on Sunday morning, my kids were awake and busy in the kitchen frying sausages. Too bad I was having blocked nose that day, as I'm sure the kitchen would have been filled with a lovely aroma. I was not allowed to cook but I did supervise them. It was such a sight having my 2 kids cooking together that hubby couldn't resist snapping some photos.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">But my kids were camera-shy, so you would only get to see their busy hands at work....</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Our front gate has served us well for the last 19 years and has begun to rust and lean off its hinge on one side. So we're in the midst of getting a new gate and doing some minor renovations to our porch. The workers took off our old gate and left it along the side wall as well as demolished our pillars to build new ones that are further apart since we're buying a bigger gate. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Two days ago, Miss SweetTeen saw the postman ride his motorbike into our porch and then ride out again, which meant that he had mail for us. We now have no more letter-box because our pillar has been demolished, so when she went out of the house to collect the letters, she didn't find any. Puzzled, she mentioned it to me when I came home and I went out to have a look. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Old habits die hard, so guess where the postman placed the letter?</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Beginning at 12 midnight on April 11th, birthday greetings were posted to my Facebook timeline and kept coming in even until the next day. I never cease to be amazed at how technology has advanced so much that I can receive birthday greetings from my friends around the world all on the same day. About a decade or two ago, we would have relied on sending greeting cards through the post and had to send them well before the actual birthday so that the card would reach the other person on time. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">For many years following my birth, my parents celebrated my birthday on April 12th. It was only when I had to bring my birth certificate to school for the Standard 5 exam (before we had UPSR for Year 6) that I realised I was actually born on the 11th, but very close to midnight, so I suppose by the time my dad called everyone to announce my birth it was already the morning of April 12th. On top of that, I found out that my Chinese name was misspelled in my birth certificate - what was supposed to be 'Ching' became 'Cheng' instead. So, 2 major surprises at the age of 11 for me... which led to having to change my name on ALL my school exercise books and the school register, as well as having to celebrate my birthday on the proper date the following year.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Anyway, turning 46 isn't as bad as I imagined it to be, haha. Still trying to keep my wrinkles away and stay young at heart, even though my creaky joints do protest if I attempt any vigorous activities. Hubby took the afternoon off and just told the kids that we were going on a lunch date. They were quite curious to know where we went! My parents came over for tea later in the afternoon and brought chocolates (yum!)</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">After dinner we had a cell meeting in a friend's home, where we gather in a small group to study a portion of the Bible, and I had a candle to blow and a cake to cut. The birthday song was also sung in various keys and didn't seem to end!..courtesy of the fun-loving young adults in our group.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">No, I have not abandoned my blog.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I've been meaning to put up new posts on my blog but the days have just flown by and it's already past mid-January. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Now that the new school term has begun, my daughter, SweetTeen's school and tuition schedule is totally different from last year's, so I need to adjust my time as I chauffeur her here and there. Thankfully, my son CoolTeen is able to drive himself to and from college.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In the meantime, I will be taking a break from blogging until I settle down to my new routine for the year.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It's been a very busy month with lots of shopping for Christmas gifts, preparations for the annual Christmas presentation in church and dinner gatherings with family and friends.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3c7diDRtQT8aHau20cPF2JUKFukDlQWIOMCZW7BCJF71NTMMFdfvdzcxTCjBAiUzSJqkWPtUqMn4soLtfnt12Gr5liuI9Q6lQUzAI6zfYbGoaDS69egIPmHRP9hB6ZtNoCRJAv9-XyG0/s1600/sunset.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3c7diDRtQT8aHau20cPF2JUKFukDlQWIOMCZW7BCJF71NTMMFdfvdzcxTCjBAiUzSJqkWPtUqMn4soLtfnt12Gr5liuI9Q6lQUzAI6zfYbGoaDS69egIPmHRP9hB6ZtNoCRJAv9-XyG0/s320/sunset.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So here we are at the sunset of 2013...a year filled with moments of joy as well as moments of sadness. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The one thing that I've been reminded of this year, something quoted by a young friend, is this:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><i>"Good things don't necessarily happen only to good people and bad things don't necessarily happen only to bad people."</i></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So<b style="color: blue;"> 2013</b>, I bid you farewell and look forward to a new year filled with exciting opportunities and possibilities.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A friend asked me to bake some chocolate cupcakes for her daughter's birthday party and since her daughter is a huge fan of the Minions from the movie 'Despicable Me 2', this is what I came up with:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

It had managed to survive through a few repairs but this time the repairman just shook his head and said, "It's time to buy a new machine."</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hubby and I had been eyeing a front-loader for quite a while as we anticipated that our washing machine would one day just suddenly conk out due to wear and tear. The price was a little steep though, with most of them above RM2000.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We finally found an Electrolux one at SenHeng that had both washing and drying function. The good news was that with a membership we could get a discount of RM800 off the retail price. That sounded like a pretty good deal, so we made an order and paid for it. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The bad news was that we had to wait a whole week before they could deliver the machine because they didn't have ready stock.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Handwashing was out of the question as I had 2 laundry baskets FULL of dirty clothes that needed washing when my washing machine broke down. Then my daughter, SweetTeen had an idea. She mentioned that there is a coin-operated laundromat that had recently opened nearby where we stay.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So off we go lugging plastic-bags of dirty laundry for our first experience at a Malaysian laundromat. We had used the laundromat when we travelled overseas so it shouldn't be too different.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We discovered that it's quite a popular place, I'm not sure why, perhaps it's cheaper than buying a washing machine? Most of the people seem to be regulars as they knew exactly what to do and some even bring their own laundry detergent. Very clear instructions are displayed on the walls and above the washers and dryers together with</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> the price list and duration of wash/drying.</span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">October has been a busy month for me and you would probably have noticed the lack of posts on my blog for the past weeks.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Just a quick update on what I have been up to...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A friend who has just started a food business asked hubby to take photos for her menu. So the things we learnt in the photography workshop a few months back are coming in handy now. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Our church celebrated her 25th anniversary, so I was busy preparing a short comical play entitled "The Modern Good Samaritan" involving the youths. Put in a few weeks of practice. Also did a short video about all the church activities in the past year. That took up some time too, choosing photos for a 4 minute video.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Meanwhile I am still on the lookout for amusing signs, which has become some sort of a hobby for me. I mean, we all need to laugh now and then, right? Here's one that I saw at a laundromat nearby my house.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I was thinking of sending my car for a good wash and polish, and was looking at the promotions in Groupon when some of the advertisements caught my eye. I never knew that people in the car cleaning industry could be so creative in their words! Oh, and I have also learnt that a wash and polish job is now called </span><i style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">auto detailing</i><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here are some of the ones I liked:</span><br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: blue; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Weary-looking vehicles seek improvements on appearance and
self-esteem as car beauticians restore shine and reputation with auto detailing
sessions. Car caretakers wash off accumulated dirt and grime from metallic
shells before clay and wax applications protect painted surfaces from further
debris. Finally, restoration liquids clear up cloudy and oxidised headlamps as
dashboards and tyres shine brighter with solutions, persistent cloths, and
powerful persuasion.</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; color: #333333;"><span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span></span></div>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #134f5c; font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;">Mechanical babies roll into the shower to rid dirt and gifts from feathered friends, while a good carpet beating discourages dust collection and bad behaviour. Hooded husks regain baby buttocks complexion with the Meguiar’s clay mask which removes dirt prints and minor scratches. For a smooth shiny finish that lasts up to three months, grease monkeys pick out tar stains before polishing and wrapping cars in double layers of wax. Once rear pipes are cleaned out and cars left void of unwanted matter, further interior and exterior polishing complete the four to five hour makeover, after which vehicles can ride their humans home.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;"><span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif; font-size: large;">Three-hour gratifying session begins with dust, mud and
evidence of affections being washed off vehicular surfaces. Carpet and trunk
dwelling vagabonds are evicted from carriage interiors before transport
technicians proceed to smoothen metallic facades with clay and expertly polish
scratch marks away. Customers may opt for glass stain removal treatment,
expunging water marks and hard stains but not scratches or err towards iron dry
wash, leaving cushioned thrones immaculate and ready to cradle posteriors once
more.</span><span style="color: #333333; font-family: Arial; font-size: 9pt;"><o:p></o:p></span></span></div>
