A few days ago CoolTeen started having problems with his handphone keypad. The way the poor keypad is used non-stop during all the hours CoolTeen is awake, I am rather surprised that it lasted as long as it did.
We took it for repairs, and here it is...all shiny and new, and in good working condition again.
And here is the worn out keypad that was replaced. I wonder why number 9 and 0 is seldom used....

Something New In My Kitchen
Lately my kids have taken a liking to the McDonald's fried chicken and it doesn't help that our neighbourhood McD is just about 1 minute's drive away from our house. After Add Maths tuition CoolTeen would say that he's hungry (I suppose all the thinking and solving equations makes one hungry) and ask his dad to use the Drive-Thru to buy McD fried chicken...and it's not cheap, 2 pieces cost about RM7 plus while I could buy a whole week's supply of chicken for CoolTeen's daily lunch for about RM8 plus.
PreTeen also loves the McD's fried chicken and has found a way to eat it without causing any damage to her teeth braces. Eating crunchy food has been quite a challenge since she had her braces fixed.
So to save some money I thought I should just make my own fried chicken instead. Using the wok would mean lots of oil being splattered all over the stove and floor, and I don't fancy doing so much mopping so late at night (CoolTeen's tuition reaches home around 11pm on the nights he has tuition, after making a detour to McD's of course). Jusco had this appliance on offer, so here is the latest addition to my collection of kitchen appliances....
an electric deep fryer :)
The cool thing about it is that not only is there no oil splatters everywhere because it has a cover and oil filter, all the food comes out just right because of the constant temperature...wow! I could never quite get my fried chicken the rich golden colour that it's supposed to be...most of my fried food is usually over or undercooked, so I'm really pleased with this fryer. It's worth every Ringgit spent.
Tonight's dinner.. my poor photo-taking skills did not do justice to the fried chicken...it actually looked much better than this and tasted great too. Now to wait for the electricity bill at the end of the month to see how much electricity this deep fryer consumes...

Why Sunny-Cookie?
It's been slightly over 2 years since I started blogging...time sure flies! I remember cracking my head over what to write for my very first post...it took me such a long time to get the right words to express what I wanted to say. Of course it got easier and easier to write as time went by, but having a perfectionist streak in me meant that I would read and re-read dozens of times every word I type to make sure that there are no spelling or grammar mistakes.
Never would I have imagined that I would get addicted to blogging and I am humbled by the fact that people from all over the world would drop by to read about my life as a mom and the things that fascinate me.
Age is catching up and there are memories I want to note down before they slip from my mind...my experiences, my thoughts, what my kids did and said... but being the private person that I am I thought it best to use a pseudonym instead of my real name.
People do ask me, "Why Sunny-Cookie?"
It's quite simple really, I combined 2 of my favourite things...
1) a sunny day - I love sunny days when clouds in the blue sky look like little puffs of cotton.
2) cookie - I love cookies..any kind. Nothing quite compares to the smell of freshly baked cookies...mmmm. By the way, my favourite character in Sesame Street is the Cookie Monster.
...and so the name Sunny-Cookie was invented. There, now you know :)

What Do Pandas Do All Day?
Mum, can you get me down now?
I can't believe I am stuck again! What's the matter with me?
Oops! A slight miscalculation...
On the count of 3...lift!
Pardon me but do you have a napkin?
Kung Fu Panda...bring it on!
Does this log make my butt look fat?
It wasn't me! I didn't steal this bamboo shoot!
I was just sitting here, I swear!
You go. I'll just stay here and rest my head a little bit.
Absolutely nothing accomplished. A perfect day for a panda.

DIY Mom
Of late my breadmaker has been jamming quite frequently (and I don't mean the musical definition of 'jam')...probably due to too much inactivity as I have been rather lazy in making my own bread, preferring to just buy from the bakery instead.
Whenever it happens I would ask hubby, my DIY guy, to fix it for me. He would open up the bottom cover, weave his magic with the screwdriver and my breakmaker would work again.
The other day I decided to bake some cheese buns and I had put all the ingredients into my breadmaker, switched on the machine and......nothing happened.
The motor had jammed again(!) and this time hubby was not at home to fix it for me, and it would a long while before he got home. So what was a mom to do but to take matters into her own hands...
1) Call hubby on his handphone and ask for instructions on how to fix the breadmaker. (He always told me that it was a simple matter. I didn't think it would be that difficult either, so I listen carefully)
2) Find hubby's toolbox in the store-room. (Why do guys like to buy so many toolboxes?? Hubby has THREE...oh,ok found the one with the gray cover). Open it and try to pick out the correct-size screwdriver.
3) Turn the breadmaker upside-down and unscrew the bottom cover.
4) Hubby said to loosen the motor belt by giving the screw a few turns.
5) Test the breadmaker to see if it would work, if not then turn the screw a few times to loosen it more (oops, a little over-enthusiastic there, almost unscrewed the whole thing!) If it worked then replace the bottom cover.
Voila! I did it(!)...and I'm reminded of the lyrics of the Bob The Builder song...
"Can we fix it? Yes, we can!!"
We moms have the ability to do anything we put our minds to...well, almost. (big grins).

Before And After Marriage
My son received this joke on his handphone and showed it to me. Read it from the top to the bottom, then read it again...this time from the bottom to the top!
There are lots of jokes about marriage (which we usually hear at weddings) and so I looked up some on the internet. There are just too many funny ones to post here, but I just had to add this one....lol!
