How True

I saw this in The Star newspaper and living with a teenage son, I can totally relate to it:

October Activities

October has been a busy month for me and you would probably have noticed the lack of posts on my blog for the past weeks.

Just a quick update on what I have been up to...

A friend who has just started a food business asked hubby to take photos for her menu. So the things we learnt in the photography workshop a few months back are coming in handy now.

This is before we began the photography session.
Everything came packed in styrofoam boxes
and we had to assemble them according to
specific instructions and sample pictures.

A few assembled items. Had to make
each item of food look as tasty as possible.
At the end of 5 hours of photo shoot.
Tiring but fun :)
Our church celebrated her 25th anniversary, so I was busy preparing a short comical play entitled "The Modern Good Samaritan" involving the youths. Put in a few weeks of practice. Also did a short video about all the church activities in the past year. That took up some time too, choosing photos for a 4 minute video.

Meanwhile I am still on the lookout for amusing signs, which has become some sort of a hobby for me. I mean, we all need to laugh now and then, right? Here's one that I saw at a laundromat nearby my house.
Naughty basket...going around stealing!
Oh, and a friend visited Bali and brought back some of these:
Disco prawns snacks...
I wonder if I will dance
better after eating them?

Stonewash...?

Recently I bought a pair of jeans which was on offer for a ridiculous price of RM15 because there were only odd sizes left. These are the kind that the customers couldn't try in the fitting room, so I just measured the waist band around my neck (someone taught me that if it fits around the neck then it should be the correct size) and bought it without thinking twice...after all, it's only 15 Ringgit!

I'm sure most of us who wear jeans would be familiar with the term stonewash, where jeans are washed with large stones to soften them and produce a worn-out appearance.

When I reached home, the jeans went into the washing machine for a wash, and after it was dry I put it on and noticed something in the right front pocket....

A tiny stone...
which I don't think will ever be able
to produce the stonewash effect?!

Pics Of The Week

Just want to share some amusing photos...things I saw around town and at home.
Firstly, there was this Lexus that tried to
take a shortcut down a flight of stairs!
Well, it's 'Malaysia Boleh'...anything goes
in Malaysia, right?
Too bad the words in red didn't show up well
in the photo. It says:
AWAS! NGV GAS TONG AT BACKSIDE
...a little obscene if you ask me!
Our master bathroom tap came loose and
water started leaking from the sides
whenever the tap was turned on, so hubby and I
went to the bathroom supplies shop to buy a new tap
and he takes out his phone to see the photo that he
had taken and edited...the precision of an engineer!
Ok, this wasn't amusing to me but my kids
thought it was rather funny...they were sitting
on CoolTeen's bed one evening with SweetTeen
strumming the guitar and the bed broke...
the side wooden piece split into two!

So off we go to buy a new bed, sigh.

Some More Pics

The weather has been extremely hot lately and this morning when I opened my handbag to get my lipstick this is what I discovered...
My lipstick had melted into a misshapen gooey lump!
Ah well, at least I've got an excuse to go buy
another lipstick!
Many of my son's friends now have their driver's license. At first it's quite a thrill to be able to drive but after a while, with all the traffic jam, driving around doesn't seem so fun. So they car-pool.

One day, a few of them decided to go to the mall. One of my son's friends drove over to our place and since my son was the designated driver for the day, we allowed his friend to park his car at our porch. When I peeked into the car (after they had left, of course!) this is what I saw...
The strange things people keep in their car:
notice what's in the compartment near the gear stick?
Here's a closer look...I was giggling so much
that I forgot to focus my camera.
Answer: dentures

(might be his dad's or mum's)
I think it is good to have marked pathways for the blind. Have you noticed them around town on the pedestrian walkways? They are yellow with raised stripes for the visually disabled to 'feel' with their cane, to help them stay on the pavement and off the road when they walk.

However. there's one pathway that really defies logic. Do you see where it leads to?

Some friends invited us to a German restaurant in Bangsar and being meat-lovers, hubby and I feasted on pork knuckles, Bratwurst sausages and rack of ribs...yum!

On another occasion we were invited to a vegetarian dinner and when this arrived on our table it looked like soup with lovely chunks of meat, right?
Wrong. It's all vegetarian...which means it's not meat
although our brain may tell us otherwise!
I marvel at how it closely resembles the real thing.
Truly a work of art, and a tasty one!

Just Some Pics

Here are some things that made me scratch my head and wonder...
Went on holiday and saw this.
Notice the location of the bath tub
and the shower head. Did the
contractor need glasses?
Perhaps the wind was too strong for
these metal dividers? Most of them lean
like this in the entire area (somewhere in Cheras)
And here are some things that brought a smile...
Knowing that I'm an Angry Bird fan, my friend
bought me these paper cups for baking cupcakes!
Another friend visited Korea during Christmas
and she helped me buy these
Skinfood skincare products at less than
half the retail price in Malaysia :)
She even brought back lots of samples.
(big big smiles)

Scary Blue Container

The other day I was at Daiso (a shop where all items are priced at RM5), one of my favourite places to browse around, when I came across this pretty blue plastic container.

I tried to open the cover but couldn't although I twisted and pulled at it. So I had to read the instructions pasted at the side of the container. Turns out that there is a release mechanism on the top of the cover that I had to press with a finger which would loosen the cover with a loud 'pop'.

I've read all kinds of instructions in very poor English which usually accompanies products made in some Asian countries, but this one had me almost rolling on the floor with laughter...

In case it's too small to read, it says:
"When you remove the cover, remove it quietly.
What is inside may jump out of it."

Go figure!

Curry-Proof

My son CoolTeen, always the witty one, came up with a new word: "curry-proof". To understand the meaning of this word I would have to tell you my son's story...

One evening, CoolTeen was having a meal with his close buddies at Papparich when one of his friends asked to have a look at his iPod Touch, the one we got him for his birthday last year.

This friend had just finished a bowl of curry mee.

While he was playing a game on the iPod, suddenly the iPod slipped from his grasp into the bowl of curry (gasp!).

CoolTeen quickly fished it out and tried to wipe off as much of the curry as possible from the iPod.

When he came home, he was rather upset because there was no sound coming out of his iPod speakers. Honestly, his dad and I were a little upset too since the iPod was not cheap. However, after a few days the speakers were working fine again. I suppose the moisture (ie. curry) had dried up within the device.

So now we know that although the iPod may not be water-proof, it sure is curry-proof!

Selamat Hari Merdeka

Today's our country's 55th Hari Merdeka or National Day, marking 55 years of independence from British colonial rule. Our national flower, the hibiscus, is even featured on the Google webpage :)

I thought I'd share a few video clips that have been circulating around, a tongue-in-cheek look at our Malaysian way of life. Enjoy!

And the very recent parody of the Korean hit Oppa Gangnam Style....

Have a Great Weekend, everyone!

Cartoon House

Remember this logo at the beginning of every Disney cartoon movie? The one that shows the outline of a castle?

There is a place in Cheras called Taman Putri Jaya where the houses are colourful and resemble castles. Hubby and I used to call them "castle houses".

Lately people have started referring to them as "cartoon house". What a strange yet funny name! Imagine telling someone that so-and-so lives in a cartoon house!

Brain, Hand and Foot

A friend posted this picture in Facebook and when I showed it to CoolTeen, he said he could identify with what it says because he said he had 'brain-freeze' when he sat for his Bahasa Malaysia exam the other day.

There's also a fun fact that I learned about the human brain, try this for yourself and see whether you can outsmart your foot:

1. While sitting at your desk in front of your computer, lift your right foot off the floor and make clockwise circles with it.

2. Now, while doing this, draw the number 6 in the air using your right hand.

Your foot will automatically change direction!

ROTFL

If you are having a dull day and need a good laugh, try looking up the travelling directions using Google maps:

1) Go to 'http://maps.google.com.my'

2) Click on 'Get Directions'

3) Click the car icon

4) In the A box, type 'new york'

5) In the B box, type 'tokyo'

6) Click 'Get Directions' below the B box

7) Read direction #51

Here's another one that will tickle your funny bone...

1) In the A box, type 'tokyo'

2) In the B box, type 'china'

3) Click 'Get Directions' and read #48

Now try travelling from 'china' to 'taiwan' and read #48...well, it's only 165km...!!

And one more thing I discovered:

1) Go to 'http://translate.google.com.my'

2) In the From box, select 'English'

3) In the To box, select 'Chinese (Simplified)'

4) In the large box beneath, type 'how old are you'

5) Click 'Translate'

6) Laugh...if you understand Mandarin :)

(The people at Google sure have a strange sense of humour!)
